Hamilton Chamber of Commerce: Communication Technology Award
Our second finalist Juch-Tech Inc., is a company headed by a forward
looking management team, which envisions an era where satellite transmission
will be the primary means of multimedia and internet communication. Juch-Tech
is widely known throughout the world as the “Hamilton Teleport”
and promotes itself using this name. Their company provides satellite
transmission and reception services for clients in North America, Europe,
South America, the Middle East and Africa.
Juch-Tech, with the support of international clients, built the Hamilton
Teleport, a facility for the reception and transmission of satellite IP
(internet protocol), multimedia digital platforms. The facility is the
only privately owned international teleport of its kind in this country.
The company recently initiated the process for the licensing and an orbital
position from industry Canada and the acquisition of a satellite which
will permit Juch-Tech to someday expand it’s operations into carrier
status and the sale of its own space segment.
In 2002 the company’s sales increased 45% and currently runs with
12 employees. Their business is mostly international but they do find
time to assist locally as is the case with community radio station CKRZ,
100.3 fm. The small first nations communication entity was assisted by
Juch-Tech and it's owner Walt Juchniewicz since it's inception in 1986.
Walt has been instrumental in their development and has supported them
in many ways aside from the technical aspects. He has volunteered his
services, advice and supported them at CRTC hearings. Juch-Tech has been
the station's link to the world through their satellite company.
The company’s research and development department has made technological
advances in the area of C, Ku and extended Ku band transmission, broadening
the capacity of satellite networks everywhere by permitting more efficient
use of the spacecraft’s capacity. In addition the company has been
engaged in research to perfect the encoding of conventional and digital
media into Internet form for distribution through the world wide web to
web users worldwide. The company is working with its international partners
to acquire a satellite and hopes someday to launch and operate its very
own spacecraft from the Hamilton Teleport.
Juch-Tech is a founding member of the golden horseshoe venture forum
an organization of businesses and financiers from the area. This group
holds regular functions designed to bring together local entrepreneurs
with venture capitalists looking to invest in small business. The company
also sponsors local youth sports programs and unique motor sport.
Juch-Tech is a small player playing in a very big game with some of Canada’s
telecommunications giants; their usual approach to issues and challenges
is to give their customers what they want, the first time!
