HAMILTON TELEPORT AND INTERNET SKYWAY SELECT IDC'S SUPERFLEX DVB SATELLITE DATA SYSTEM FOR EUROPEAN SATELLITE INTERNET SERVICE
IDC’s SuperFlex Becoming Internet Via Satellite Network Tool of Choice for International Service Providers

Ottawa, Canada – May 6, 1999 - International Datacasting Corporation (IDC) [ME:IDA] is pleased to announce that the Hamilton Teleport, a division of Juch-Tech Inc. of Hamilton, Canada, and its customer, Internet Skyway of Germany, have selected IDC’s SuperFlex data transmission system to deliver high speed Internet service to Europe.

SuperFlex will be used to establish high speed Internet connections from Hamilton, Canada to Internet Service Provider (ISP) sites across Europe. SuperFlex forms part of a network comprising a satellite outbound channel and diverse terrestrial and satellite inbound channels. This means that requests for Internet information from Europe will be made by traditional terrestrial or satellite means and high speed responses from the North American backbone will be sent back via satellite from the Hamilton Teleport at data rates as high as 63.3 Mb/s. The net result is that Internet Skyway’s ISP customers will be able to have cost effective, high reliability North American connectivity, avoid some of the congestion of terrestrial networks, benefit from multipoint delivery, and position themselves to provide IP multicasting services.

SuperFlex is a highly flexible digital satellite networking system designed to distribute data, audio and video services by satellite in point-to-multipoint applications. The SuperFlex transmission system incorporates advanced technology using Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB), Internet and MPEG international standards. Data streams can be synchronous, asynchronous or Internet Protocol (TCP/IP or UDP/IP or IP Multicast) with Ethernet or ATM OC-3 switch interfaces. The SuperFlex receivers can be addressed individually, as groups or globally. The flexibility of the receiver allows for the distribution of multiple data streams using the Ethernet, synchronous and/or asynchronous ports.

Ron Clifton, President and CEO of International Datacasting, stated, "Internet via satellite is one of the fastest growing areas of our business today and it is well known that Internet traffic between Europe and North America is highly asymmetric - typically 80% to Europe and only 20% return. This system, like others we are providing, takes advantage of this asymmetry to significantly improve performance and lower costs. We have had an excellent working relationship with Juch-Tech Inc. for a number of years and we are very pleased to be working with them on this leading edge application - they have an excellent reputation for running high quality and highly reliable operations."

Walt Juchniewicz, President of Juch-Tech Inc. said, "Juch-Tech is a systems integrator that has used IDC equipment for many years – working with them on this project was a natural choice for us. Not only have we successfully deployed their satellite equipment, but have established a close, personal relationship with them. Internet Skyway is a valued strategic partner in our teleport and has put confidence in us to provide one of the first Trans-Atlantic internet services to Europe from Canada through Eutelsat and KPN."
